LAB SERVICES
When working together, we use your detailed medical history, current dietary intake, prior measured lab values, medications, supplements, and lifestyle practices when assessing the causes of your symptoms or primary areas of focus. In addition to reviewing labs from your physician and medical team, we may recommend additional functional lab tests in order to get the most detailed information about your body and your metabolic function.
As an integrative registered dietitian nutritionist, critical interpretation of common medical lab tests and application of a more functional-based reference range where appropriate is what separates functional from conventional medicine. The labs we can provide offer a more thorough assessment of a 'whole systems approach' to provide information that standard labs may overlook.
Standard labs often ordered include: Complete blood count (CBC), fasting lipid panel, metabolic panel, HgbA1c, TSH, fasting glucose, and vitamin D. These labs are a great starting point, but fail to offer an in-depth look into each individual.
For example...
— Lipid panel overlooks the vessel's state of inflammation, the particle size of lipids, oxidative risk, etc.
— Metabolic panels provide a glimpse of liver and kidney function and electrolyte stability. If fails to evaluate how the liver processes toxins,
micronutrient status (e.g. vitamins, minerals, antioxidants), and/or whether the immune system is stresses.
— HgbA1c provides a snapshot of a 3 month average of blood sugar levels but fails to assess glucose, fasting insulin response, c-peptide
hormone, adiponectin, and inflammation; all of which play an essential role in understanding why blood sugar levels are elevated.

There is overwhelming evidence that vitamin deficiencies are associated with the chronic disease process and the overall condition of ones health “inadequate intake or subtle deficiencies in several Vitamins are risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease cancer and osteoporosis.” Journal of the American Medical Associations (AMA) June 19, 2002 – Vol. 287. PROCESS
If applicable, labs requiring a blood draw can be drawn at any phlebotomist (medical blood lab) or clinic. Upon ordering labs, you will receive an e-mail with a link to lab drawing clinics near you and how to best prepare for the lab draw. Please note: Based on your particular lab, you may be required to have the lab drawn in a fasting state (i.e. no food/drink for 12 hours prior) or other instruction.
Processing time for all labs is 2-3 weeks (from time of receipt to time of results received). If you are not an active client (have completed an Initial Consultation) and have purchased a lab, I will provide a customized e-mail which will include the results of your lab as well as interpretation and recommendations (including lifestyle considerations, supplement considerations, etc.) within 10 business days after receiving lab results. Please note, this correspondence does not make you an active client of Simply Nourished as a full review of medical/personal health history, current medications/supplements, symptoms, etc. does not fit within the time allotted for the 'lab only' selection. If you're interested in a full review of medical history and more complete assessment, please be sure to also select and purchase an Initial Consultation.

HOW IT WORKS
Select and add lab test(s) to your cart and complete purchase. Allow 2-3 business days to process.
Based on the type of specimen (e.g., blood/serum, urine, saliva, stool), you will be shipped a kit or pre-paid form and sent an email with detailed instructions/next steps. If a blood specimen is needed, the email will include lab location(s) nearest to you. Once you determine where you will have your lab drawn, you will take the test kit and pre-paid mailing form to the lab with you. Once the lab is drawn, you will then ship the collected specimen via the pre-paid shipping label and instructions included in the kit. Other specimens (e.g., saliva, urine, stool) will be collected from the comfort of your home and you will ship the specimen via the prepaid shipping label and instructions in your kit.
All labs take 2-3 weeks to process (from time of receipt) to generate results.
After you've received correspondence, you can then decide if you'd like to become an active client of Simply Nourished (by purchasing an Initial Consultation). Or, you can purchase a 20-minute Check-In service to dive deeper into further questions you may have.
Note: Some laboratory measures are restricted for those who reside in NY, NJ, MD, and RI.
